NEW ULM — This week students at St. Anthony started the roller skating program in phy ed.

The roller skating program is a 22-year tradtion at St. Anthony. Each year the school rents a set of skates from Skate Time in the Twin Cities for the program.

Phy Ed teacher Nancy Genelin said skating is similar to riding a bike. You never really forget.

The kindergarten students are usually the only students who struggle. The older students, even those who have not skated since last year, retain and improve on their skating abilities every year.

The roller skating program is fun tradition at St. Anthony, but it also a healthy activitiy.

Second grade students at St. Anthony’s get the roller skate experience. Above, Austin Wilfahrt, Sean Franta, Ken Howk, Elle Wald and Jayden Stewart roll around the gym at St. Anthony’s.

Genelin said it was a great cardiovascular exercise that the kids enjoy.

Starting at $4.50/week.
