Dist. 84 board discusses hybrid schedule

SLEEPY EYE — The District 84 Board of Education discussed the high school hybrid class schedule currently being followed Tuesday.

Several board members said they were concerned about what students do on alternating “off” (not in school days) and how to help struggling students.

High school principal Shane Laffen said struggling students are invited to come to school for more instruction on their “off” days and that some of them do so.

Board member Brian Nelson suggested requiring struggling students to come to school for extra instruction on their “off” days.

Laffen said he would consider criteria for the concept.

Cselovszki said he would bring the issue back to the December board meeting.

Cselovszki said he is concerned about community COVID-19 spread as Brown County case numbers are rising fast lately.

“People need to mask jp and social distance if they want schools to stay open,” Cselovszki said.

Cselovszki said the State of Minnesota is requiring the school to add 30 minutes of preparation time each day for teachers.

He preferred a two and one-half hour early out on Friday to allow for more prep time. Board member Darla Remus said she preferred adding the prep time each day.

Cselovszki said he would discuss the issue with staff and let the board know how they feel.

The board approved donations of $131.73 for COVID needs from the Class of 1973, and $19.73 from the Charities Aid Foundation America for an elementary field trip and for high school PBIS (positive behavior intervention support).
