Scaled down Oktoberfest begins Friday

NEW ULM — New Ulm is famous for its Oktoberfest celebration, but due to COVID-19 things are going to be different this year. With no safe way to host large gatherings, venues are planning scaled-back celebrations to meet the standards.

The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce will not hold its traditional Oktoberfest but will replace it with the Maker Fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.

Artisans and crafters will line up on Minnesota Street, from Center to 3rd North, for an outdoor shopping event. The event includes food trucks from Lola’s and Sozial, and a BBQ truck. Joni’s will offer its traditional Oktoberfest food.
