Get a flu shot, doctors urge

NEW ULM — Every year, doctors encourage the public to get vaccinated for the flu, and this year it is especially important.

The severity of this year’s flu season is unknown, but this year will seen added complications due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Doctors do recommend getting the flu vaccine,” Dr. Bryana Andert said. “We recommend that one way for us to help with respiratory illness this coming season, given many unknowns around COVID19, is to make sure you are up to date on all vaccinations. This would include other childhood vaccines, as well and pneumonia vaccination in the older adult population.”

Allina Health is taking appointments for flu vaccinations in New Ulm, Springfield, Winthrop and Lamberton. This year, people must call ahead to schedule appointments. The clinics cannot accept walk-in.

Anyone interested in scheduling a vaccination can call 507-217-5011.
