League of Women Voters to hold state legislative forum on Saturday

NEW ULM — The New Ulm League of Women Voters is holding a public form on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon at the community hall at Oakwood Methodist Church, 1630 Oakwood Avenue, New Ulm, to discuss key bills and issues coming before the 2020 State Legislature.

The public is invited to the event. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for morning coffee and refreshments.

Special guest is Nick Harper, League of Women Voters Minnesota (LWVMN) Civic Engagement Director, who will review bills and proposals affecting voter registration, redistricting, campaign finance, election law and other League priorities.

Harper is the League’s staff lead for state advocacy. He holds a B.A. in political science from Gustavus Adolphus College and a J.D. with public service honors from the University of Iowa College of Law. He is also a licensed attorney in Minnesota.

Joining Harper is Paul Huffman, LWVMN Census and Redistricting Coordinator who will discuss the 2020 census and the importance of obtaining a full and complete census count. Huffman will also discuss congressional and legislative redistricting.

“We welcome area residents to this forum which will offer details on redistricting and how to have a voice in the next legislature,” said Ruth Ann Webster, President of the New Ulm League of Women Voters. “This promises to be an information-packed morning,” she said.
