Eagles finish Day 1 of Section 2AA meet
ST. PETER — New Ulm finished the first day of the Section 2AA Track and Field Championships on Wednesday at Gustavus Adolphus College, competing in a number of preliminary events and sending athletes on to the final day of the meet Friday.
Eagles sophomore Hunter Heil qualified for 100-meter dash finals by running a personal best time of 11.14. Junior George Gag qualified for Friday’s finals in the 400 and 200. George clocked a 400 time of 51.10 and 200 time of 22.45 (PR) to advance to the finals.
Senior Michael Hames earned his way to the 400 finals by finishing third in preliminaries with a time of 51.17.
The Eagles girls set several PRs on Wednesday also. Izzy Longtin ran a PR in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.94, while Mazy Kitzberger ran a PR time of 2:34.77 in the 800 and Violet Beranek ran a PR time of 28.46 in the 200. In the long jump, Zoey Havemeier had a PR jump of 14 feet, 8 inches, while Jesalyn Skoglund had a PR in the high jump with an eighth-place jump of 5 feet. Kiyla Schugel had a PR of 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump also for the New Ulm girls.
The final day takes place Friday.
