SEU leads opening round of 2A boys golf tourney

NORTH MANKATO — The Sleepy Eye United boys golf team turned in a top score of 328 on Tuesday to lead the first round of the Section 2A Boys Golf Tournament at North Links Golf Course.

The top four teams qualified for the final round Monday, along with individual golfers who carded a 90 or better and was not on those top four teams. United South Central shot a 330 for second on the day, while Mountain lake shot a 345 and Cedar Mountain shot a 349 to qualify for the final day Monday.

The boys medalist with Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton’s Jeffrey Simonson, who shot a 74.

SEU was led by Nolan Kucera, who shot a 78 for third. Also for SEU, Isaac Christenson shot an 80 for fifth, while Blaine Arneson and Anders Coulson tied for 11th with 85s, Eli Christensen shot an 89 for 24th and Dylan Krebs shot a 114 for 64th.

Cedar Mountain was led by Carson Schiller, who carded an 80 to tie for fifth, while Hank Heiling shot an 86 for 15th, Thomas Dahmes shot an 88 for 20th, Owen Dittbenner shot a 95 for 37th, Blake Koerner shot a 111 for 61st and Isaac Potter shot a 123 for 67th.

New Ulm Cathedral also saw two boys qualify for Monday’s finals. Carter Wilson shot an 88 to tie for 20th and advance, while Jack Griebel carded an 89 to tie for 24th and make the cut.

Also advancing to Monday from the area, Springfield’s Colton Sell shot an 85 to tie for 11th, while his teammate Dylan Simonson tied with GIbbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Cole Jacobson for 17th with 87s.

Monday’s finals is back at North Links Golf Course.
