Strong Pressure

Is Being Used to Get New UIm Into League. Sentiment, so Far,

——–

M. F. Sullivan, one of the moving spirits in the Southern Minnesota baseball league, together with a number of baseball enthusiasts from Mankato, will be in New Ulm this evening.

Since Albert Lea withdrew from the league recently, there is considerable talk of organizing another league, composed of Minnesota and Iowa cities. Mankato baseball fans have been insistent that New Ulm enter the Southern Minnesota league. Several communications have been received from Mr. Sullivan by local fans heretofore, but little attention has been given the matter, as fans were lukewarm as regards the joining of the league and the organizing of a club here this season.

Meeting This Evening.

However, Mr. Sullivan, communicated with a number of New Ulm fans Wednesday and arranged for a meeting to be held here this evening at 8o’clock at the Commercial club. At that time he and others from Mankato will explain the modus operandi of the league and attempt to interest local fans to join the league and arrange for a baseball club here this season.

Sentiment in favor of a baseball club has been lacking in New Ulm since the disbanding of the crack team here a year ago last fall. New Ulm had two or three years of the national sport, and put high grade teams in the field, but many were of the opinion the returns were not commensurate with the amount expended.

Last year the Southern Minnesota Baseball league was organized and it is said that some excellent games were enjoyed. Mankato and a number of cities to the east were members of the league and a schedule of games was outlined at the opening of the season and adhered to.

Several meetings have been held for re-organization of the league this spring, but harmony seems to be lacking in some quarters, and therefore new timber is being solicited for league membership. Hence the meeting this evening.

Large Attendance.

A large attendance is expected at this meeting, as there are many baseball fans in New Ulm, who are always interested in anything pertaining to the national sport.
