BOYS GIVEN WARNING

Five Lads Taken in Tow By Officers at Dance Tuesday Evening.

——–

Citizens residing near the Armory complained to the local police that there was considerable boisterousness during and following the dance Monday evening. The following evening, the police force gave particular attention to conditions in that vicinity. They became convinced that boys were drinking “moon” as they frequently visited cars parked in the vicinity of the Armory. They investigated and found their suspicions to be correct and took five lads into custody. They reside in this community. They were told to report the following day and City Attorney H. N. Somsen gave the boys a lecture upon the waywardness of their conduct, and cautioned them that if they were taken into custody in New Ulm again upon a like charge that there would be no mercy shown them.

A lad from Mankato was also apprehended by the local police, after they had searched his car, and found a bottle of “moon.” The lad claimed that it was not his and that he did not know it was in his car. Owing to the fact that it is not lawful to search a car without a warrant, the boy was released after a good lecture.

The local officials, it is said, are determined to clean up the illicit booze business in New Ulm. If a house-cleaning is not forthcoming after due time, the new city administration will be reminded of this fact. There is no reason, why the illicit liquor traffic cannot be abated.
