Burglars entered the soft drink parlor of J. R. Towne & Co. at Cobden, Tuesday night, but secured only small loot for their trouble, according to a statement given Sheriff W. J. Julius of this city, who was called to Cobden to investigate, Wednesday morning. The yeggs gained entrance to the building by means of a rear window, and the only clues which they left behind were some small screw drivers.

Not Over $57 in Cash.

The loot consisted of $3 worth of pennies, $4 in “crippled” and old coins, and from $15 to $50 in nickels, making a total of from $22 to $57 in cash. The burglars must have been disciples of Izaak Walton, for they took along a complete fishing outfit, comprising a steel rod with double cork grip, a Brorson modern level-winding reel and a tan silk line.

Neighbors Heard Noise.

When the Chicago & North Western passenger train went east, Wednesday morning at 3 o’clock, Mrs. S. S. Riges heard a noise. Mrs. Offerman, another neighbor, heard someone walk along the sidewalk at about the same time. The ladies thought nothing further of these sounds, until learning of the robbery the next morning.

Sheriff’s Office Notified.

The sheriff’s office was notified of the burglary, Wednesday morning, and Sheriff Julius left for Corden immediately to make an investigation. As previously stated, the only tangible evidence to be found were a number of small screw drivers, which the yeggs used in their pilfering operations.
