Lauren Murphy, DO, to see patients at NUMC

New Ulm Medical Center is excited to welcome Lauren Murphy, DO, adult and child/adolescent psychiatrist in October of 2019. Murphy will be the first child and adolescent psychiatrist at New Ulm Medical Center, where she will practice part-time via telehealth.

Telehealth is the use of electronic telecommunication technologies, such as computers and mobile devices, to support long-distance clinical health care.

“This position in New Ulm gives me the opportunity to reach people who may have never had access to a psychiatrist beforehand,” says Murphy. “I’m looking forward to fulfilling an important need in the New Ulm area.”

Murphy is double board-certified as an adult and as a child and adolescent psychiatrist. She received her bachelor of science degree in biology from University of Minnesota and completed medical school at A. T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona. Murphy then returned to Minnesota where she completed both her adult psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic.

During her last rotation in medical school, she had the opportunity to work with a childhood adolescent psychiatrist and knew it was the field she wanted to pursue. Murphy shared, “I just really enjoyed how I was able to truly learn the stories of my patients and spend time getting to understand them.”

Murphy is looking forward to joining New Ulm Medical Center because of how welcoming and caring the community is. She enjoys the small town feel because it gives her the chance to get to know everyone at a more personal level.

Murphy is especially excited to get to work with telehealth. It was something she was always interested in because it provides a new way for patients to access the care they need. It also allows her to spend more quality time with her family, which is a very important factor to her.

She is married and has two beautiful daughters, an eight and four year-old. As a family they enjoy spending time outside, going to amusement parks and traveling.
