NUMC Blood Drive

When: Wednesday, July 17; 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Where: New Ulm Medical Center, 3rd Floor Auditorium.

Youth-Focused First Aid Training

When: Thursday, June 20 or Tuesday, Aug. 20; 1-2:30 p.m.

Where: Washington Learning Center Room 104 (door 1)

Description: This class will help anyone develop the basic skills necessary to manage a first-aid situation. Students learn duties and responsibilities of first-aid rescuers and first-aid actions needed for common medical and environmental emergencies. A few examples of the skills learned include caring for choking, minor cuts and bruises, broken bones and sprains, sunburn, heat/cold-related emergencies, allergic reactions, animal bites and stings. The class will also discuss how and when to make a 911 call. Instructor: Jeff Allerson

Youth-Focused CPR/AED Training

When: Thursday, June 27 or Tuesday, Aug. 27; 1-2:30 p.m.

Where: Washington Learning Center Room 104 (door 1)

Description: This noncertification class will allow anyone to learn the core skills of CPR. Participants will learn how to use an AED, develop the skills for choking relief and will learn how to recognize an emergency. These various skills will focus on care for an adult, child and infant. Great for youth who have more independence during the summer, for those watching their siblings, or for anyone who just wants to know how to react in an emergency situation. This class is for anyone who wants to learn basic CPR skills, choking relief and AED awareness.

Summer Speed and Strength Program – New Ulm

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 11-July 25; 7-9 a.m. for grades 9-12; 9-11 a.m. for grades 7-8

Where: New Ulm High School Weight Room

Description: Students will participate in speed/agility/quickness workout and a closely supervised total body strength training workout. For student athletes entering grades 7-12.

Persistent Pain Support Group

When: First Monday of the month starting June 3; 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: NUMC Board Room

Short description: Join us to learn pain management techniques and share what you have learned to encourage others. This is for anyone with persistent pain.

Speakers: Coordinated by NUMC Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute physical therapists, Jenna Schultz and Matt Hodgden

Registration: Not required

Stroke Support Group

When: Second Tuesday of the month; 10-11 a.m.

Where: NUMC Board Room

Description: This group will provide the opportunity to share feelings, ideas and resources. It’s for stroke survivors and care partners

Speakers: Coordinated by NUMC Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute staff, Liza Rignell and Wendy Guggisberg; some months will include outside speakers.

New Ulm Medical Center Foundation Golf Tournament

Stepping on Falls Prevention Class

When: Wednesdays, Aug 14-Sept 25; 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Where: New Ulm Community Center

Description: For aging adults who want to stay in their homes and reduce their fall risk. Meets 7 weeks plus a booster class.

Aphasia Group Class

When: Once a week; time to be determined

Where: NUMC Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute Speech Therapy Department

Description: We will work in a small group to practice what you learned in your speech therapy sessions. For stroke survivors with aphasia (loss of language skills) and their care partners
