New Ulm Police • Took a report of fight outside of Smiley’s Tavern. Wednesday.  Officers spoke with a 30-year-old New Ulm man who stated he was outside when a male and female asked him for a ride.  When he declined, the male assaulted him.  Officer located the male and female about a block away.  The male, 55 years old from Arlington and the female, 54 years old from Albert Lea, stated that the New Ulm male was the aggressor.  No one appeared to be injured, and no one involved wanted charges pressed.  A report went to Freeborn County Probation and Minnesota Department of ...

Missing Lafayette Township man found dead

Nicollet Sheriff’s Department located the body of John Huelskamp, 85, from Lafayette Township Wednesday morning. Huelskamp was reported missing at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday a farm site in Lafayette Township, north of New Ulm. According to the report, Huelskamp went outside to work with his cattle and had not been seen for an unknown amount of time. Nicollet County Deputies began searching the area for Huelskamp along with New Ulm Police Department K9 unit, Minnesota State Patrol-Air Unit, Sibley County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, and New Ulm Fire Department. New Ulm Police • Took a report of explosions heard at New Ulm Steel at 1:23 p.m. Dec. 27. An employee said both shredder engines were backfiring. A report went to New Ulm City Hall. • Took a skip-scanning report from Walmart at 1:52 p.m. Dec. 27. A 33-year-old New Ulm woman was accused of failing to scan $277.68 worth of items on numerous occasions. She was cited for theft. Police noticed an equipment violation and that the vehicle plates didn’t match. The man was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the Brown County City Attorney’s Office. • Talked to a 22-year-old New Ulm man Dec. 25 who said he was receiving threatening calls including threats to kill him and his parents.
