Weekend area roundup: Dake qualifies for girls state wrestling

Dake wins girls 3A

170-pound title

REDWOOD FALLS — New Ulm Area’s Ellie Dake returns to the Individual State Wrestling Tournament after winning the 170 division of the Section 3A Girls Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Dake defeated Jackson County Central’s Riley Peterson by fall in 1:18 before winning by fall again over Marshall’s Esther Say in 1:02 in the championship round.

Also from the area, Red Rock Central’s Izzy Chmelar placed fifth at 118, while NUA’s Anna Pollard placed sixth at 124. St. James Area/Madelia’s Ellie Romsdahl placed second to advance to state at 136, while Wabasso’s Camryn Irlbeck placed fifth at 142. SJA/M’s Nevada Anderson placed third at 155, while Wabasso’s Heidi Foy placed fifth at 170. SJA/M’s Anahi Ruiz-Morales placed fourth at 190.

The Individual State Wrestling Tournament begins on Feb. 26.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cathedral 72, BLHS 70

NEW ULM — New Ulm Cathedral held off Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Saturday in a Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.

Eli Anderson led Cathedral with 29 points and six rebounds, while Logan Goblirsch had 10 points and nine rebounds. Ryler Collins and Will Finstad each had 10 points for the Greyhounds also.

No statistics were reported for BLHS.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nicollet 83, GFW 57

WINTHROP — Nicollet downed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 83-57 on Saturday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover girls basketball game.

Nicollet (17-6) was led by Zoie Rengstorf’s 23 points and seven assists, while Jazmyn Goettlicher had 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals and Cheyenne Klockziem had 13 points and eight rebounds. Megan Soost added 8 points and four rebounds, while Chloe Kachelmeier had 6 points, Shelby Beyer had 5 points and Kamryn Truebenbach had 3 points and three steals.

No statistics were reported for GFW.

BOYS HOCKEY

Providence Academy 5, New Ulm 3

NEW ULM — New Ulm fell to Providence Academy 5-3 on Saturday in nonconference boys hockey aciton.

Providence outshot New Ulm 51-24 on the day, giving Eagles goalie Blaine Arneson 46 saves with Prpvidence scoring an empty-netter late to put the game away.

Jaxon Saenz, Masyn Hauser and Carsten Haala each had a goal for New Ulm, while Brody Nprdby, Carson Uecker, Melvin Sellner, Saenz and Kayden Klein each had an assist.
