NEW ULM – Usually, if a softball team were to get nine separate batters on base, it would be considered a well-rounded game from the offense.
New Ulm outdid even that, putting 13 individuals on base during a 16-1 win over Worthington in four innings in a Big South Conference softball game on Wednesday.
The game ended after four innings due to the 15-run rule.
“It’s fun to be able to have the full roster contribute in a game,” New Ulm head coach Kristi Andersen-Loose said. “We know that we’ve got depth with eight seniors. You want to honor the seniors and give them every single inning, because they’ve been committed and dedicated to the program. But yet we also know that we have a job to do to that, when they graduate, that we’re going to come back fully loaded again. And we need to give those underclassmen experience as well. So it’s nice when we can all do it together and all contribute. All of them are part of our success.”
An 11-run first inning allowed New Ulm to go to its depth for the rest of the game. The Eagles tacked on three runs in the second and one run in both the third and the fourth to end the game early.

Ramsey Hopp earned the win for New Ulm, striking out five and allowing one hit in two innings. Miley Flor and Megan Brudelie each pitched one inning, with both allowing one hit and Brudelie striking out one and allowing one run.
At the plate for New Ulm, Maddie Backer, Kenzie Enter, Hopp, Lauren Schmeising, Berkley Wilfahrt, Mya Hornick, Addison Hage, Bridgette Roiger, Gracie Baker, Hadley Batt, Lacey Sondag-Bode and Brudelie all had a hit in the game.
New Ulm started the game with four consecutive hits as Hopp and Schmeising each collected RBIs. Hornick, Hage and Baker also collected RBIs and Hopp came around a second time to score two more runs, with Wilfahrt driving in one final run to go up 11-0. Three wild pitches scored three more runners in Backer, Enter and Flor in the second inning, then New Ulm hit 15 runs in the third inning as a groundout from Batt scored Baker.
Worthington got its only run of the game on a solo homer from Brittin Fauskee in the fifth inning, but Flor got that run back in the bottom of the inning, with a single bringing home Sondag-Bode to end the game.
