Stark downs Essig in 7 innings
ESSIG — The Stark Longhorns rolled to a 14-1 win over the Essig Bluejays on Wednesday night in a Tomahawk East League amateur baseball game.
Nick Labat led the way for Stark, going 4 for 5 with a double, triple and two RBIs, while Dylan Klein was 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Sean Mathiowetz wad 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Arian Saenz was 1 for 3 with three RBIs. Adam Sellner got the win on the mound in four innings, allowing four hits for no runs while striking out four. David Surprenant pitched a scoreless, hitless, walk-free fifth inning while fanning two also for Stark.
Winsten Nienhaus led Essig at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double, while Jay Helget added an RBI. Sam Hansen took the loss in four innings, allowing 10 hits and no walks for seven runs while striking out two.
