Area roundup: Springfield keeps rolling, downs Loyola in 2A playoffs

SPRINGFIELD — No. 1 Springfield rolled by No. 5 Mankato Loyola/Immanuel Lutheran 11-2 in the Section 2A Baseball Tournament, advancing to the semifinals on Saturday.
Kade Nachreiner got the win for the Tigers, striking out two while allowing two runs on two hits and no walks in seven innings. At the plate, Jakob Nachreiner was 3 for 4 with a triple, a double and two runs scored, while Aiden Moriarty was 2 for 2 with six RBIs. Kade Nachreiner was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Russel Beers was 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Jackson Ludewig was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Springfield (20-2) will play the winner of No. 2 Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s and No. 6 Madelia at ISG Field in Mankato on Saturday.

SLEEPY EYE — No. 7 Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman downed No. 3 Sleepy Eye 2-1 in the Section 2A Baseball Tournament on Thursday, knocking the Indians out of the elimination bracket.
Cody Schultz took the loss for Sleepy Eye, Striking out seven while allowing two runs on two hits and eight walks. At the plate, the Indians did not record a hit, with Gavin Strong collecting an RBI and Winsten Nienhaus scoring a run.
Sleepy Eye finishes its season with a 14-7 record.
NOTE: Madelia at St. Mary’s was scheduled for a 7 p.m. Thursday playoff game in Sleepy Eye, but the game was rained out and is currently scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Friday.
GIRLS GOLF
Price leads girls golfers at 2A girls tourney
NORTH MANKATO — Sleepy Eye United’s Sam Price shot a 93 on Thursday to lead all golfers at the Section 2A Girls Golf Tournament at North Links Golf Course.
Her 93 also helped SEU finish first as a team on the day with a 443 to advance to Monday’s Section 2A finals. Qualifying standards to get to that final meet include the top four teams, the next best five individuals not on those teams and those within five strokes of the fifth-best individual not on an advancing team. Also advancing as a team was Alden-Conger (476), New Ulm Cathedral (490) and Mountain Lake (498).
SEU also saw Meriden Andres take eighth (113), while Kiara Murphy took 11th (118), Chloe Walter took 14th (119), Ella Pollard take 22nd (126) and Elizabeth Currans take 27th (140).
Cathedral’s team saw Alaina Blomberg take fifth (107), while Kaitlyn Furth took 14th (119), Maddie Gilles took 23rd (127) and Emma Hoffmann took 26th (137).
Individually advancing from the area to Monday were Springfield’s Mavri Winkelmann (99), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Jenna Schweiss (111), Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky (116) and Springfield’s Kynslee Kastner (118). Within five strokes of Kastner to advance to Monday and also from the area were Cedar Mountain’s Bailey Woodford (119) and Madelia’s Katie Bocock (119), Genesis Robles (121) and Dahlia Schmidt (123).

MARSHALL — Despite forcing a second Section 3A Softball Tournament finals game against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Thursday with a 6-5 win, RTR came back to win 11-1 in six innings in the second finals game and earn a trip to the Class A State Softball Tournament.
In the 6-5 win, Avery Carlson had a double and two RBIs to lead Wabasso at the plate. She also got the complete-game win, allowing eight hits and five walks for four earned runs while striking out four.
In the loss, Wabasso got a hit from Addisyn Hillesheim and Audrey Johnson for the Rabbits’ two hits in the game. Carlson took the loss in 3 1/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and a walk for seven earned runs while striking out two.
Wabasso finishes its season 20-8.
