SLEEPY EYE 4, MANKATO NATIONAL 1

MANKATO — Sixth-seeded Sleepy Eye took down third-seeded Mankato National 4-1 in the opening round of the District 2 VFW Tournament on Wednesday.

Cooper Walter got the win for Sleepy Eye, striking out 10 and allowing one run on five hits in seven innings of work. At the plate, Jaden Brandl and Anden Braun each had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored, while Mason Mathiowetz and Walter each had a hit and an RBI.

Sleepy Eye now faces second-seeded New Prague at 9 a.m. Thursday at Mankato East High School.

CHASKA 7, NEW ULM 2

MANKATO — Fifth-seeded Chaska defeated the fourth-seeded New Ulm Silver 7-2 in the opening round of the District 2 VFW Tournament on Wednesday.

Wyatt Hansen took the loss for New Ulm, striking out three and allowing seven runs on nine hits in seven innings. At the plate, Ethan Drill had a hit and an RBI, while Owen Drill and Robert Rewitzer each had a hit and a run scored.

New Ulm will face eighth-seeded Hutchinson Thursday at 9 a.m. at Minnesota State University.
