Walter named Tomahawk Conference Player of the Year

NEW ULM — The Tomahawk Conference announced its 2023-2024 All-Conference Boys Basketball Team Monday, with Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Will Walter taking home the Tomahawk Conference Player of the Year.

Walter led the conference with 26.4 points per game in conference play while adding 7 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 52.7% from the field and 39% from 3-point range.

Also selected to the All-Conference team from St. Mary’s was senior forward Mark Anderson, while senior guard Brandon Schmitz was an honorable mention.

Springfield and Sleepy Eye also had three players represented, with Brayden Sturm and Noah Vogel selected unanimously from Springfield and Ben Potter named an Honorable Mention, while Sleepy Eye’s Landon Wendinger was a unanimous selection to the team and Brayden Heiderscheidt and Isaac Lendt making the Honorable Mentions.

Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Dominic Rose and Cole Jacobson were both chosen for the team, Rose unanimously, while Cathedral’s Jevan Wilfahrt made his third appearance on the team as a unanimous selection. Cathedral’s Jake Finstad was also an Honorable Mention. Minnesota Valley Lutheran had two players represented, with Ben Pearson being a unanimous selection and Kyler Flunker named an Honorable Mention. Cedar Mountain’s Blake Schueller was selected to the team and teammate Blake Steffl was an Honorable Mention, and rounding out the team was Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewarts’ Chase Hubin, who made the team for the third time.

Springfield head coach Lance Larson was named the conference’s Coach of the Year after winning a share of the conference with a 13-3 record.Walter named Tomahawk Conference Player of the Year
