Cedar Mountain 41

HECTOR — No. 1 Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart cruised by No. 9 Cedar Mountain 92-41 in a Section 2A, North Subsection Girls Basketball Tournament game Monday.

Aubrey Steffl led the Cougars with 13 points, five assists and three rebounds, while Kendra Ericson had 11 points and six rebounds. Brynn Hoffbeck added 4 points and three rebounds for Cedar Mountain.

No stats were reported for BLHS.

Cedar Mountain ends its season with an 11-17 record.

Belle Plaine 70, MVL 31

BELLE PLAINE — No. 3 Belle Plaine defeated No. 6 Minnesota Valley Lutheran 70-31 Monday in a Section 2AA Girls Basketball Tournament game.

MVL head coach Hailey Santos said MVL struggled to get their offense going against Belle Plaine’s zone defense, and that Belle Plaine’s balanced scoring attack made matchups a challenge throughout the game.

Olivia Hammer led the Chargers with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Avery Freier had 7 points and three steals. Mackenzie Merseth added 6 points and nine rebounds for MVL.

MVL finishes its season with a 4-23 record.

EAST CHAIN — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman downed Madelia 59-36 in a Section 2A, South Subsection Girls Basketball Tournament game Monday.

Immanuel Lutheran 51

MANKATO — Madelia topped Immanuel Lutheran 83-51 in a nonconference boys basketball game Monday.

Tony Zaleski led the Blackhawks with 18 points, while Kyle Pietsch had 17, 15 in the second half. Kaydon Firchau added 16 points, 15 in the second half, while Eric Anderson and Josiah DeMaris each had 12 points.

No. 7-seeded Madelia ends the regular season with a 10-16 record and will travel to No. 2-seeded Springfield on Tuesday, March 5.

Canby 77,

Cedar Mountain 68

CANBY — Canby defeated Cedar Mountain 77-68 on Monday night in a nonconference boys basketball game.

Blake Schueller led the Cougars in the loss with 18 points and a game-high 18 rebounds, while Blake Steffl had 18 points and seven assists. Also for Cedar Mountain, Branndon Pendleton had 17 points, while Zach Sandgren had 11 points and six rebounds.

Cedar Mountain (15-11) opens playoffs at Lester Prairie on Tuesday, March 5.
