Junior Legion roundup: Sleepy Eye moves on to Sub-Sub State finals
SEMIFINALS
Sleepy Eye 7, Madelia 1
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye defeated Madelia 7-1 on Sunday night in the DII Junior Legion Southwest Sub-Sub State Baseball Tournament semifinals at Sleepy Eye Ballpark.
Sleepy Eye will next play the winner of Monday’s 5 p.m. game between Madelia and St. James on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in Sleepy Eye. If Sleepy Eye wins that 7:30 p.m. game, it will move on to the Southwest Sub-State finals in Springfield next weekend. A loss in that 7:30 p.m. game would force Sleepy Eye to play a winner-take-all game Tuesday night in Sleepy Eye.
Damian Sanchez got the win for Sleepy Eye in all seven innings, allowing five hits and three walks for one earned run while striking out three. Carson Uecker led Sleepy Eye at the plate, going 2 for 5 with an RBI.
Tate Becker took the loss in five innings, allowing two hits and six walks for two earned runs while striking out 12. Chase Osborne was 2 for 3 to lead Madelia at the plate, while Noel Davila was 2 for 4.

Madelia 11, Blue Earth 1 (5 innings)
SLEEPY EYE — In the first DII Junior Legion Southwest Sub-Sub State Baseball Tournament game Sunday, Madelia rolled to an 11-1 win over Blue Earth/Winnebago in five innings at the Sleepy Eye Ballpark.
Cale Odegard was 2 for 2 with an RBI to lead Madelia at the plate, while Kyle Pietsch was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Noel Davila was 2 for 3 with an RBI. No pitching stats were provided.
The win moved Madelia on to Sunday night’s semifinals game with Sleepy Eye, listed above.
Sleepy Eye 8, St. James 0
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye shut out St. James 8-0 on Sunday afternoon in the second game of the DII Junior Legion Southwest Sub-Sub State Baseball Tournament at Sleepy Eye Ballpark.
Kayden Klein went all seven innings on the mound for the shutout, allowing four hits while striking out four. He also led the way at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Landon Wendinger was 2 for 2 with a double.
Sleepy Eye’s win moved it to a Sunday night semifinals game with Madelia, listed above.
