Area roundup: Mustangs sweep Cougars in 2A playoffs

HECTOR — No. 4-seeded Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart swept No. 5-seeded Cedar Mountain Monday in the second round of the Section 2A Volleyball Tournament, winning 25-18, 25-15, 25-19.
Hailey Hollar led the Cougars with nine kills and 16 digs, while Aubrey Steffl had eight kills and 10 digs. Kendra Erickson had 20 set assists and 13 digs.
Cedar Mountain finishes its season with a 19-9 record.
Mayer Lutheran 3, GFW 0
MAYER — No. 1-seeded Mayer Lutheran Swept No. 8-seeded Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 25-10, 25-10, 25-12 Monday in the second round of the Section 2A Volleyball Tournament.
Taylor Schafer had five kills for the Blackhawks, while Katelyn Beranek had 12 digs and six set assists and Trinity Stearns had three blocks.
GFW finishes its season with a 12-13 record.
Waseca 3, MVL 0
WASECA — No. 3-seeded Waseca swept No. 6-seeded Minnesota Valley Lutheran 25-19, 25-20, 25-23 Monday in the second round of the Section 2AA Volleyball Tournament.
Gabbie Bleick had 13 kills and 15 digs for the Chargers, while Marley Schauer had seven kills and four digs. Kerigan Brau had 21 set assists and six digs also for MVL, while Mackenzie Merseth had six kills and 16 digs.
MVL finishes its season with a 10-25 record.
Cleveland 3, Cathedral 0
CLEVELAND — No. 3 Cleveland swept No. 6 New Ulm Cathedral 25-15, 25-15, 25-19 in the second round of the Section 2A Volleyball Tournament Monday.
Shay Wilfahrt led the Greyhounds with 12 kills and 14 digs, while Ava Krueger had seven kills. Madelyn Haala added 25 set assists and 14 digs.
Cathedral finishes its season with a 14-11 record.
Redwood Valley 3, New Ulm 0
NEW ULM — Redwood Valley swept New Ulm 26-24, 25-15, 26-24 in a Big South Conference volleyball match Monday.
Afton Hulke had seven kills, 14 digs, two aces and a block for the Eagles, while Erin Wise and Evelyn Friese had five kills each. Kenzie Enter had 13 set assists and 12 digs, while Amber Lee had 12 set assists and nine digs.
No. 8-seeded New Ulm finishes its regular season with a 11-11 record and will take on top-seeded Marshall on Wednesday.
