SPRINGFIELD 22, LESTER PRAIRIE 0 (GAME 1, 4 INNINGS)

SPRINGFIELD 19, LESTER PRAIRIE 1 (GAME 2, 4 INNINGS)

LESTER PRAIRIE — Springfield outscored Lester Prairie 41-1 in a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader on Thursday, winning 22-0 in Game 1 and 19-1 in Game 2.

Both games ended in four innings due to the 15-run lead rule.

In Game 1, Kali Nachreiner led the Tigers at the plate by going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, while Jada Reese was 3 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs, Kendall Krueger was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Abby Dove had a double and two RBIs. Regan Beadell got the win in four innings, giving up just one hit and no walks while striking out three.

In Game 2, Springfield was led by Abby Groebner, who was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Krueger was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Dove was 2 for 3 with a triple. Faye Williams got the win in the circle in four innings, allowing two hits and three walks for one unearned run while striking out six.

Springfield is now 5-1 on the year.

CATHEDRAL 5, BLHS 0 (GAME 1)

CATHEDRAL 8, BLHS 1 (GAME 2)

HECTOR — New Ulm Cathedral swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 5-0 and 8-1 in a Tomahawk Division softball doubleheader on Thursday.

Jayde Altermatt took the win in the circle for the Greyhounds in Game 1, striking out 13 while allowing three hits and one walk in the shutout. At the plate, Leah Wilson was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Ava Schmid was 2 for 3. Shay Wilfahrt had a hit, two RBIs and a run scored, while Abbey Hillesheim, Brynn Wilfahrt and Ashlyn Hillesheim each had a hit and an RBI.

Altermatt was also the winning pitcher in Game 2, striking out 10 and allowing one run on two hits in a complete game. At the plate, Shay Wilfahrt was 2 for 2 with a run scored, while Ashlyn Hillesheim had a hit and two RBIs. Brynn Wilfahrt added a hit and an RBI.

Cathedral (5-2, 4-0) plays at Sleepy Eye on Tuesday.

NICOLLET 7, GHEC 2

NICOLLET — Nicollet defeated Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 7-2 on Thursday in a Valley Division softball game.

Taylor Wilking led the Raiders in victory with a 3-for-4 day and an RBI, while Madison Kettner was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Jazmyn Goettlicher was also 2 for 4 with an RBI for Nicollet, while Lydia Martens was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Brielle Osborne got the pitching win, going all seven innings and allowing three hits and four walks for one earned run while striking out seven.

Nicollet is now 6-1 on the year.

MCW 10, Madelia 0 (5 INNINGS)

WELCOME — Madelia was shut out by Martin County West 10-0 on Thursday in a Valley Division softball game.

The game ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Maddie Carlson got the five-inning perfect game for MCW in the circle, striking out 10.

Addison Odegard took the loss for Madelia in four innings, allowing three hits and seven walks for two earned runs while striking out six.

Madelia fell to 2-6 with the loss.

PREP BASEBALL

SLEEPY EYE 3, GFW 0 (GAME 1)

SLEEPY EYE 11, GFW 8 (GAME 2)

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye swept Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk Division baseball doubleheader on Thursday, winning 3-0 in Game 1 and 11-8 in Game 2.

In Game 1, Karter Haala got the complete-game shutout on the mound, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out seven. Brayden Heiderscheidt, Carson Uecker and Kayden Klein each had a hit for Sleepy Eye, with Uecker’s being a double.

For GFW in Game 1, Owen Swenson took the loss in 4 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and three walks for two earned runs while striking out eight. He and Caleb Hacker also had GFW’s two hits in the game.

In Game 2, Uecker got the win on the mound in three innings, allowing one hit and two walks for three earned runs while striking out four. He also was 3 for 5 with three doubles and four RBIs, while Heiderscheidt was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Anden Braun was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

For GFW in Game 2, Cole Kemkes took the loss in 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and two walks for five earned runs. Isaac Beckendorf led the Firebirds at the plate, going 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Koufax Rose was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.

Sleepy Eye improved to 4-1 on the season with the win, while GFW fell to 0-6.

ST. MARY’S 3, WABASSO 2 (GAME 1)

ST. MARY’S 6, WABASSO 5 (GAME 2)

WABASSO — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s earned a narrow sweep over Wabasso in a Tomahawk Division baseball doubleheader on Thursday, topping the Rabbits 3-2 in Game 1 and 6-5 in Game 2.

St. Mary’s scored two runs in the seventh inning in Game 1 and two in the sixth in Game 2 to steal the wins.

Eli Christensen earned the win for St. Mary’s in Game 1, striking out two while allowing no runs and no hits in two innings. Merrick Mathiowetz made the start, striking out 10 and allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits in five innings. At the plate, Kyle Nelson was 2 for 3, while Landry Folkens had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored. Michael Balko added a hit and an RBI.

Candon Olson took the loss for Wabasso, striking out one and allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits in two innings. Drew Kemp made the start, striking out three and allowing two hits in five scoreless innings. At the plate, Kemp and Zach Skoblik each had hits, while Brady Baune and Jack Burns had runs scored.

Christensen earned the win in Game 2 as well, striking out two and allowing one hit in 3 2/3 innings. Folkens started and struck out five while allowing five runs, two earned on one hit and eight walks. At the plate, Tyler Mathiowetz was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Balko, Ethan Schwartz and Jack Windschitl each had a hit and an RBI.

Jayden Remiger took the loss for the Rabbits, striking out seven while allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit in three innings. Skoblik started, striking out two and allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits in three innings. At the plate, Remiger was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Baune had two runs scored.

St. Mary’s (3-4, 2-2) hosts Lester Prairie on Tuesday, while Wabasso (1-4, 0-3) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday.

SPRINGFIELD 11, LESTER PRAIRIE 1 (GAME 1, 5 INNINGS)

SPRINGFIELD 16, LESTER PRAIRIE 1 (GAME 2, 5 INNINGS)

LESTER PRAIRIE — Springfield stayed unbeaten on the season with a pair of wins over Lester Prairie in a Tomahawk Division baseball doubleheader, winning 11-1 in Game 1 and 16-1 in Game 2.

Both games ended in five innings due to the 10-run lead rule.

Madden Lendt led the Tigers in Game 1 by going 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Leo Hovland was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Aiden Moriarty tripled and added three RBIs, while Adiel Trevino tripled and drove in two runs, Noah Mueller doubled and had an RBI and Ely Streich doubled. Mueller got the win also in five innings of mound work, allowing three hits and two walks for one earned run while striking out two.

In Game 2, Springfield was led by Moriarty, who went 2 for 2 with a homer, a walk, four RBIs and four runs scored. Kadyn Anderson was 2 for 4 with a double and five RBIs also for the Tigers, while Lendt was 2 for 4 with three runs scored, Trevino tripled, had two walks, an RBI and three runs scored and Streich tripled and had an RBI. Eli Heglund got the win on the mound in Game 2, allowing four hits and a walk for one earned run while striking out one. Trevino struck out four and allowed one hit in two innings of relief.

Springfield is now 6-0 on the year.

GFW BOYS 194, SPRINGFIELD BOYS 197, WABASSO BOYS 225

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop won the boys side of a prep golf meet against Springfield and Wabasso on Thursday, while Springfield won the girls side of the meet.

GFW’s Cole Jacobson was the boys medalist, shooting a 43. He was followed by Springfield’s Braxton Brown (46) and Blake Zihlke (47), GFW’s Brenden Lee, Wabasso’s Brayden Guetter and Springfield’s Colten Sell (48), GFW’s Carson Lee and Springfield’s Erik Davis (51), and GFW’s Lincoln McCue and Andric Rubendall and Springfield’s Dylan Simonson (52).

Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky (49) and Mavri Winkelmann (50) topped the girls side of the meet and were followed by GFW’s Hadley Dohling and Springfield’s Kynslee Kastner (53), Springfield’s Annie Kuehn (55), Wabasso’s Alexis Jensen (57), Springfield’s Willow Krueger (58), GFW’s Maren Kemkes, Wabasso’s Josie Wiese (60) and Wabasso’s Carlee Jenniges and Heidi Foy (61).

NEW ULM 4, HOLY FAMILY 3

VICTORIA — New Ulm defeted Holy Family Catholic 4-3 on Thursday in a nonconference boys tennis meet.

New Ulm got wins at No. 2 singles, No. 3 singles, No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles. Dan Brownfield defeated Andrew Rizkalla 6-1, 6-2 at 2 singles, while Isaac Dittmer defeated Johnny Abercrombie 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Girffin Lehne defeated Griffin Friedrich 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. New Ulm’s No. 2 doubles team of Everett Brown and Ryan Johnson stayed undefeated as a team this season, defeating Paul Lisko and Ravi Costello 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
