Area roundup: Greyhounds sweep Crusaders

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Cathedral 3, Loyola 0

MANKATO — New Ulm Cathedral swept Mankato Loyola 25-17, 25-11, 25-23 in a nonconference volleyball match on Monday.

Jenna Hotovec led the Greyhounds with 11 kills, 14 digs and two blocks, while Shay Wilfahrt had 10 kills and nine digs. Ava Krueger had 10 kills, with Jaylin Hartness getting 17 digs and 4 aces. Madelyn Haala added 30 set assists and four aces for Cathedral.

Cathedral (13-8) hosts Cedar Mountain on Tuesday.

RCW 3, Wabasso 1

RENVILLE — Renville County West defeated Wabasso 26-24, 16-25, 25-15, 25-19 in a nonconference volleyball match Monday.

Alivia Olson had 22 kills for the Rabbits, while Avery Carlson had seven kills. Sara Carlson had 36 set assists, 13 digs and two blocks, while Audrey Johnson had 18 digs and Avery Carlson had 15 digs. Lyla Kittleson added four aces and Camryn Irlbeck had six total blocks.

Despite the loss, Wabasso clinched the Tomahawk Conference Championship. Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart initially won a conference game against New Ulm Cathedral 3-1 on Sept. 19, but upon review were forced to forfeit for having a player play too many sets, giving Wabasso (15-7, 7-1) sole ownership of the conference title.

Wabasso travels to play Redwood Valley on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 3, St. Clair 2

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye held off St. Clair 19-25, 25-20, 25-14, 15-13 Monday in a nonconference volleyball match.

Kadence Hesse led the Indians with 15 kills, 17 digs, five blocks and two aces, while Brea Mertz had 14 kills and 23 digs. Sam Price had 14 kills and six digs, while Paige Haala had 11 kills and 24 digs. Hanna Meyer totaled 47 set assits and 17 digs.

Sleepy Eye (16-6) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

Waseca 3, New Ulm 0

WASECA — Waseca swept New Ulm 25-22, 27-52, 25-18 in a Big South Conference volleyball match.

Afton Hulke had nine kills, three aces and six digs for the Eagles, while Alexa Barstad had five kills, two blocks and an ace. Gracie Linbo added 11 digs.

New Ulm (10-6, 6-3) hosts St. Peter on Tuesday.
