Schmitz no-hits NRHEG in St. Mary’s win

ST. PETER — Brandon Schmitz hurled a no-hitter on Saturday for Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s as the Knights edged New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 4-1 at Gustavus Adolphus College in nonconference baseball action.

Schmitz allowed one unearned run and hit a batter but didn’t allow any walks or hits in the complete-game win while striking out five.

The Knights picked up just one hit in the game, but it was enough to help them earn the win and it came off the bat of Schmitz in the third. Kameron Kosak and Mark Anderson scored on an error in that inning that also allowed Kaleb Wait to reach first safely. Wait took second on a passed ball before Schmitz drove him in for a 3-0 lead.

The Knights got another run in the sixth after Talan Helget collected an RBI and reached on an error to scored Brandon Tauer. Tauer, Jon Petermann and Kosak all drew two walks in the game.

St. Mary’s (9-4) is at Fairfax on Monday to take on Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

Starting at $4.50/week.
