ST. CLAIR — Sleepy Eye moved to 2-0 on the season with an 11-1, five-inning victory over St. Clair/Loyola on Friday in nonconference softball action.

For Sleepy Eye, Brissa Hernandez was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Paige Haala was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Lydia Helget was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored also for the Indians, while Taylor Berkner was 1 for 3 with four runs scored and an RBI.

Berkner also got the win in the circle for the Indians, pitching all five innings and striking out 14. She walked five and allowed two hits.

Sleepy Eye is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday for a Tomahawk Conference game.

Wabasso 4, MCC 1

WABASSO — Wabasso moved to 2-0 on the season Friday by defeating Murray County Central 4-1 in a nonconference softball game.

Annabelle Struntz was 2 for 3 to lead the Rabbits at the plate, while Kelsey Frank, Sara Carlson and Avery Carlson each added a single. Avery Carlson got the win in the circle, giving up three hits and striking out 10.

Wabasso travels to take on Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s in Tomahawk Conference action on Monday.

MCW 9, Madelia 7

MADELIA — Martin County West held off Madelia for a 9-7 win on Friday in a Valley Conference softball game.

Madelia, now 2-1 overall, was led by Emma Coil, who was 3 for 4 with two homers and three RBIs. Veronica Ibeling also doubled, drove in a run and scored two runs for Madelia at the plate.

Corban Tatro took the loss in the circle, giving up five hits and five walks for six earned runs. She struck out six. Coil pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief and gave up two hits and a walk for two earned runs while striking out three.

Emily Anderson was 2 for 3 with a homer and four RBIs to lead MCW at the plate, while Maddie Carlson got the win in the circle, allowing eight hits and a walk for three earned runs while fanning nine.

Madelia hosts St. Clair/Mankato Loyola on Monday.

PREP BASEBALL

Sleepy Eye 20, MCW 0 (5 inn.)

SHERBURN — For the second day in a row, Sleepy Eye ended things in five innings after a 20-0 win over Martin County West on Friday in a nonconference baseball game.

Sleepy Eye downed GFW 19-0 in five innings Thursday.

On Friday, the Indians were led at the plate by Cody Schultz, who was 4 for 5 with three RBIs and a double. Nick Mielke was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a double also for Sleepy Eye, while Jake Price and Caden Evers each had two hits and an RBI, with Evers adding a double.

Mielke got the win in two innings, giving up three hits and a walk while striking out four. Marcus Martinez pitched two innings in relief and struck out five while allowing one hit, while Schultz pitched the fifth inning and struck out two.

Sleepy Eye hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye downed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 19-0 in five innings Thursday night in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.

The Indians jumped out to an early lead with a 13-run first inning.

Arian Saenz led the Indians at the plate, going 2 for 4 with six RBIs, while Jake Price was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a triple. Caden Evers and Austin Uecker also each had two hits, with Evers tripling and driving in two runs. Caleb Suess also doubled with the Indians.

Saenz got the win in three innings, giving up one hit and fanning nine.

Layton Uecker-Hamre and Justin Hoffmann each had a single for GFW’s hits. Dominic Rose took the loss in 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and three walks for 10 runs while striking out one.

BOYS GOLF

Mankato West 331,

New Ulm 392

MANKATO — Mankato West defeated New Ulm 331-392 on Friday in a boys golf meet at Mankato Country Club.

Mason Buegler shot 20-over-par 71 to finish first for the New Ulm boys, while Will Fossen shot 21 over par, Zach Fischer shot 32 over par and Will Weidman shot 35 over par.

Mankato West 414,

New Ulm 471

NORTH MANKATO — Mankato West defeated New Ulm 414-471 on Friday in a girls golf meet at North Links Golf Course.

Elyse Dreckman took first for the New Ulm girls with a 102, while Brooklyn Hagberg shot a 121, Katie Wilker and Sophia Cooke each shot a 124 and Rory Gieseke shot a 125.
