NEW ULM — Led by Brennan Shaver’s hat trick, New Ulm cruised to a 7-0 shutout win over Mankato Loyola on Saturday afternoon in Big South Conference boys’ soccer.

The Eagles also got a pair of goals from Nils Quist and a goal each from Josh Shaneman and Logan Goblirsch.

New Ulm had 19 shots on goal, and Eagles goalie Ethan Goff made five saves.

MANKATO — New Ulm shut out Mankato Loyola 2-0 on Saturday in a Big South Conference girls soccer game.

Cedar Mountain goes 3-2 at SMSU tourney

MARSHALL – The Cedar Mountain volleyball team went 3-2 over the weekend at the Jimmy John’s Tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University, taking second in the middle bracket of the 24-team tournament.

Cedar Mountain beat Dawson-Boyd (25-16, 25-21), fell to Pipestone (22-25, 11-25), beat Westbrook-Walnut Grove (25-23, 25-19), beat Brandon Evansville (25-12, 22-25, 15-10) and fell to Redwood Valley (21-25, 23-25).

Hailey Hollar led the Cougars in the tournament with 49 total kills, while Nadia Meyers had 103 total set assists.

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL

MLC 3, Crown 0

SAINT BONIFACIUS — Martin Luther College swept Crown College 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 on Saturday in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball match.

Grace Kieselhorst led the Knights in kills with 11, while Lauren Paulsen had 10 and Hannah Willems had eight. Naomi Bridgemen had six aces and 10 digs also for the Knights, while Paulsen had 10 digs, Kieselhorst added 14 set assists, Lydia Feidt had three blocks and Kylie Wolf had 10 set assists.

MLC (7-12, 3-4) travels to Bethany Lutheran College for a UMAC matchup on Tuesday night.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

MLC 2, UMM 2

NEW ULM – Martin Luther College tied the University of Minnesota Morris 2-2 on Saturday afternoon in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer game.

The Knights trailed 2-0 before Megan Martin scored in the 62nd minute on an assist from Kaitlin Butler. Butler then scored a goal of her own on a penalty kick in the 86th minute to tie the game.

MLC outshot UMM 23-6 overall and 6-3 in shots on goal.

MLC (4-6-2, 2-4-1) hosts Bethany Lutheran College for a UMAC game at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

MEN’S SOCCER

UMM 2, MLC 1

NEW ULM – The University of Minnesota Morris held off Martin Luther College 2-1 on Saturday in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer game.

MLC trailed 2-0 after two second-half goals before getting a goal from Joel Schewe in the 83rd minute on an assist from Noah Kvidt.

MLC outshot UMM 17-14 overall and both teams had nine shots on goal. MLC goalie Adam Rosenbaum had seven saves.

MLC (1-10-1, 0-7-0) hosts Bethany Lutheran College for a UMAC game at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
