Erickson, Pearson, Thram lead All-Journal boys’ golfers

Carson Erickson, Jr., SEU

Erickson ended his junior campaign with Sleepy Eye United with an 11th-place finish at the Class A State Golf Tournament in Becker. He had a Tomahawk Conference-best scoring average of 38 over nine holes this year, helped the SEU boys win the conference for the sixth year in a row and was a unanimous selection as the Tomahawk Conference Player of the Year. He is a two-time All-State, three-time All-Conference player and now a two-time All-Journal player.

Ben Pearson, So., MVL

Pearson was the Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys’ team lowest scorer every meet this season. He turned his low scores during meets into a trip to the Class A state tournament for the first time in his career this season, finishing 16th after a two-day total of 162. Coming into the tournament, Pearson was ranked 39th in the tournament. Pearson also earned Tomahawk All-Conference honors again this year and was an All-Journal Honorable Mention last year.

Christopher Thram, Sr., Springfield

Thram came up just short of reaching the state tournament this year, ending an impressive career with two tripe to the state tournament. He went in 2019 with the Springfield boys’ team and qualified individually in 2021, finishing 24th overall. The five-year varsity player finished fourth in the conference tournament, seventh in Section 2A and had a nine-hole average of 40.1. He was also a Tomahawk All-Conference golfer this year and an All-Journal golfer last season. Thram will continue working on the farm and racing.

Owen Strei, Fr..,

Cathedral

Strei finished his freshman season of golf as New Ulm Cathedral’s top boys’ golfer, turning in an average of 43 over nine holes. He also finished third in the conference this year and was 12th at the Section 2A meet.

Will Fossen, So., NUHS

Fossen turned in a scoring average of 44 over nine holes during his sophomore year with the Eagles. He also advanced to the second day of the Section 3AA Golf Tournament and will be looking to take another step further next season.

Jacob Schultz, Sr., SEU

Schultz finished fourth in the Tomahawk Conference this year in scoring average with a 44 average over nine holes. He was named All-Conference for the second time and had turned in multiple 39s this season for a nine-hole best. His best 18-hole score came at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club where he turned in an 80. He will be attending Minnesota West Community and Technical College in the fall.
