New Ulm boys cruise by LSH

New Ulm High School’s Collin Horning takes the ball into the paint while guarded by Le Sueur-Henderson’s Grant Adams during a nonconference boys’ basketball game on Saturday at NUHS.

NEW ULM — While the New Ulm boys’ basketball team didn’t score 100 points, they did play at 100%.

It’s fair to say 110%.

The Eagles had Le Sueur-Henderson on its heels all game long Saturday afternoon at New Ulm High School as they coasted to a 95-38 win in nonconference action.

The Eagles (8-4) were led by James Osborne’s 30 points, while Colton Benson had 19 points and Charlie Osborne had 17. Zander Fischer was the fourth Eagle in double figures with 13 points.

LSH (4-7) was led by Gage Bishop’s 12 points, while Dylan Kahlow scored 10.

Kahlow gave the Giants an early 2-0 lead on a basket in the paint, but it was quickly taken away after a 3 by Benson and a layup by James Osborne. The Eagles then put the pedal to the gas and went on an 18-0 run to lead 25-6, with a 3 by James Osborne ending the run.

After the Giants finally got back on the board with another bucket inside by Kahlow, the Eagles got an 11-0 run to cruise ahead to a 36-8 lead. The run was highlighted and capped off on a steal and dunk by James Osborne.

James Osborne also had the final points of the half after burying a 3 and the Eagles led 55-25 at halftime.

The Giants started the second half with a brief 4-0 run before the Eagles kicked things into high gear again, going on an 8-0 run to lead 63-29.

Moments later, the Eagles got a 19-0 run to lead 82-33. That 19-0 run, the Eagles’ largest run of the day, was kicked off on a rare 4-point play by Charlie Osborne and ended on a Garrett Foley steal and dish to James Osborne for an and-one.

The Eagles got a late 3 by Cale Dennis and a driving layup by Ayden Jensen to cap off the scoring in the game.

New Ulm is at Sibley East on Tuesday for another nonconference game.
