MAYER — New Ulm Cathedral took down Mayer Lutheran 56-48 on Monday night in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Sam Knowles led the Greyhounds with 18 points, 21 rebounds, six assists and four blocks, while Jevan Wilfhart had 22 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. David WIlfahrt added 8 points for Cathedral.

Cathedral (6-6) hosts Sleepy Eye on Friday.

RCW 55, Sleepy Eye 42

SLEEPY EYE — Renville County West topped Sleepy Eye 55-42 on Monday night in nonconference boys’ basketball action.

The Indians were led by Marcus Martinez’s 13 points, while Erizen Traconic scored 7 points and had eight rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (0-9) is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday night for conference action.

TCU 69, Nicollet 43

MONTGOMERY — Tri-City United downed Nicollet 69-43 on Monday night in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Conner Martens led Nicollet with 20 points and five rebounds, while Jeffrey Volby had 12 points and Ed Carleton had 5 points and 11 boards.

Nicollet (4-6) is at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday for a Valley Conference game.

SJA 73, GFW 63

WINTHROP — St. James Area topped Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 73-63 in nonconference boys’ basketball action on Monday night.

Brody Hentges led the Thunderbirds with 17 points, while Alex Johnson had 16 points and Braylan Freitag had 10 points.

GFW (2-7) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

Girls’ Basketball

Nicollet 79, AC/GE 40

NICOLLET — Nicollet downed Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 79-40 on Monday night in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game.

Hayely Selby led the Raiders with 15 points and 17 rebounds, while Marah Hulke had 12 points and five assists. Also for Nicollet, Shannon Soost had 12 points and six rebounds, while Josi Hansen had 12 points and five steals and Brooklyn Bode had 11 points and three steals.

Cearra Grunzke had 15 points for AC/GE.

Nicollet (6-6, 6-2) hosts St. Clair on Thursday night in a Valley Conference game.

GHEC 72, Madelia 31

MADELIA — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther defeated Madelia 72-31 on Monday night in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game.

Victoria Hemmingsen led Madelia with 11 points, while Katherine DeVlaeminck had 7 points.

Madelia is at Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey for a nonconference game in Comfrey on Tuesday.

BLHS 67, Wabasso 48

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart topped Wabasso 67-48 on Monday night in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Wabasso was led by Kelsey Frank’s 18 points and four rebounds, while Bella Brand had 12 points and nine rebounds and Avery Carlson had 7 points, seven assists and five rebounds.

No stats were available for BLHS.

Wabasso (6-9, 3-4) is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Friday, while BLHS (7-2, 4-1) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday.

NUA competes at Gerry Bakke Memorial Invite

BUFFALO — The New Ulm Area wrestling team competed at the Gerry Bakke Memorial Invite on Saturday.

Parker Kamm (113) took first for the Eagles with two pins, while Jaden Drill (285) finished first with two falls and a decision. Taking second on the day for the Eagles were Wyatt Pollard (145) and Julian Hernandez (220). Pollard went 2-1 with a pin and a major decision, while Hernandez was 2-1 with a pin and a decision.
