MLC has 3 athletes honored by UMAC

Baseball

NEW ULM — Two Martin Luther College baseball players received Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Senior Adam Kock was named Pitcher of the Week, while shortstop Aaron Roeseler won Player of the Week.

Kock won the honor for pitchers after throwing a complete game to lead the Knights to a 5-2 win over Medaille on Saturday.

Kock threw seven innings and allowed only two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out seven in the win.

Roeseler made a big impression in his debut for the Knights, hitting .650 (13-for-20) with 13 runs, seven runs batted in and seven stolen bases. The senior shortstop hit three doubles, one triple and one home run in the first six games of the team’s Florida trip.

Roeseler was a force near the top of the MLC line-up during the week, getting on base at a .696 clip while slugging 1.050.

The Knights finished the spring trip with a 2-6 record, and will return to action on March 24 when they play a nonconference doubleheader at Northwestern-St. Paul.

Softball

NEW ULM — Sophomore first baseman Elena Hoffman was named UMAC Softball Player of the Week following her performance during the Knights’ annual spring Florida trip.

Through the first six games of the team’s trip, Hoffman hit .522 with 4 home runs, 14 runs batted in and five runs scored.

Hoffman did much of her damage in a 12-6 win over SUNY Delhi on March 7 when she hit a career-best three home runs and drove in nine of the team’s 12 runs on the day.

In Monday’s action, Hoffman added two more home runs to give her a UMAC-best six this season.

After a stellar debut season in which she tied the MLC single-season home run record with eight, Hoffman now has 14 career home runs, just one shy of the MLC all-time record of 15, held by Karla Opperman (2008-11).

Hoffman and the Knights are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 28, when they host Northwestern-St. Paul in the UMAC opener.
