ST. JAMES — Led By Olivia Wick’s triple-double, New Ulm defeated St. James Area 58-43 on Friday night in a Big South Conference girls’ basketball matchup.

Wick had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks. Hannah Osborne was also close to a triple-double on the night for New Ulm, finishing with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Also for the Eagles, Kirsten Dennis had 15 points and Nora Windschill had eight rebounds.

The Eagles (11-13) are on the road against Martin County West on Monday.

MVL 63,

Nicollet/Loyola 41

NICOLLET — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Nicollet/Loyola on Friday night in nonconference girls’ basketball action.

It was senior night at Nicollet, and the Raiders honored their late senior teammate Jill Thompson by starting with four players on the court until the first basket was made on a 3 by Nicollet’s Zoey Weller.

The Raiders were led by Weller’s 11 points and four rebounds, while Megan Frutiger had 10 points and Hayley Selby had 8 points and six rebounds. Marah Hulke had six assists, four rebounds and three blocks for the Raiders also.

MVL was led by Emma Nelson, who had 11 points, 12 rebounds and five steals, while Abbie Riederer had 11 points. Abby Nelson had 10 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for MVL, while Maddie Pearson had 9 points and six assists.

Nicollet (8-15) hosts Mountain Lake Area on Thursday, while MVL (18-6) hosts Cedar Mountain Tuesday night.

St. Mary’s 83, AC/GE 33

ALDEN — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s raced past Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 83-33 on Friday night in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Madison Mathiowetz led the Knights with 34 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Sydney Windschitl added 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Also for St. Mary’s, Reagan Severson had 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Liz Schwint added 10 points.

Abbie Theusch had 11 points to lead AC/GE.

The Knights (21-2) host St. Clair at 7 p.m. Monday.

Sleepy Eye 72,

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye (17-8) had four players score in double figures as the Indians defeated Granada-Huntley/East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman on Friday in a nonconference girls’ basketball contest. It was the regular-season finale for Sleepy Eye.

Kaydince Thoms led Sleepy Eye with 18 points and seven rebounds. Brea Mertz scored 16 points, had nine rebounds and four steals. Brittney Dittbenner added 16 points with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Kadence Hesse had 13 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Boys’ basketball

MVL 93,

Cedar Mountain 70

MORGAN — Minnesota Valley Lutheran picked up a 93-70 Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball win over Cedar Mountain on Friday night.

The Chargers were led by Dunwa Omot and Kyreis Harrison, who each had 19 points. Omot also had six rebounds and three steals for MVL, while Harrison added four assists.

Also for MVL, Jace Marotz had 15 points and five rebounds, while Mason Cox had 11 points and nine rebounds.

For the Cougars, Trey Peterson-Juhl had 25 points and five rebounds, while Devonte Charles and Cade Schiller added 9 points apiece.

MVL (22-2, 14-2) hosts Martin County West at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, while Cedar Mountain (11-13, 6-9) is in Hector at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to take on Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.

Wabasso 63,

Sleepy Eye 57

WABASSO — Wabasso held off Sleepy Eye 63-57 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Wabasso was led by Isaac Kronback’s 22 points and seven rebounds, while Will Carlson added 15 points and four rebounds.

No stats were reported for Sleepy Eye.

Wabasso (9-17, 5-11) now awaits playoffs, while Sleepy Eye (2-21, 1-14) is at Winthrop to take on Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop for a 7:30 p.m. conference game Tuesday.

GFW 78, Sibley East 73

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop pulled out a 78-73 win over Sibley East on Friday night in nonconference boys’ basketball action.

GFW was led by Damian Hopp, who had 28 points, and Johnnie Ambrose, who had 17 points. Ryan Lavrenz also added 11 points for the Thunderbirds.

Sibley East was led by Aaron Flieth, who had 19 points, and Lucas Tesch, who had 15 points.

GFW (7-15) hosts Sleepy Eye on Tuesday, while Sibley East (7-14) hosts Norwood-Young America Tuesday.

Cleveland 59, Madelia 57

MADELIA — Cleveland topped Madelia 59-57 on Friday night in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game.

Ja’Sean Glover led Madelia (8-13) with 22 points, six rebounds and three steals.
