BLOOMINGTON — Tony Geiger’s sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Nolan Drill from third and lifted the New Ulm Junior Legion Gold to a 4-3 win over Bloomington Blue in the first round of the 2019 Junior Legion State Tournament.

Ethan Stade got the complete-game win for New Ulm, now 23-7. He struck out four and scattered four hits.

Hunter Sehr paced New Ulm with three hits. Evan Wiltscheck and Cade Bushard each added two hits.

New Ulm led 3-0 going into the top of the seventh inning when Bloomington used a walk and an error to tie the game.

But Junior Gold rallied to win the game in the bottom of the inning. Drill led off with a double and moved to third on a Bushard bunt single.

Drill then raced home on Geiger’s sacrifice fly.

Junior Legion next plays at 6 p.m. Friday against Eden Prairie at Red Haddox Field in Bloomington.
