NEW ULM — The Essig Bluejays used three walks, a hit batsman and two infield singles to score three runs in the top of the eighth inning to erase a Brewers 3-1 lead and come away with a 5-3 win over New Ulm Wednesday night in a Tomahawk East League game at Mueller Park.

Eric Scheibel got the win for Essig (3-5). He went 7 1/3 innings.

Chris Cariveau took the loss in relief for the Brewers (2-5). Cariveau allowed four runs in his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Hunter Sehr and Kyle Helget each had two hits for the Bluejays.

J.T. Hoffmann, Brady Ranweiler and Jordan Fischer each had two hits for the Brewers.

The Brewers, who are off until June 10 when they travel to Stark, had taken a 3-0 lead off of Scheibel after four innings.

New Ulm had pushed two runs across in the third when Hoffmann walked and took second on a Landon Rewitzer sacrifice bunt. He swiped third and trotted home on a Wade French double.

French crossed the plate with New Ulm’s second run of the inning on a Brady Ranweiler single.

New Ulm added a run in the fourth when Jordan Fischer singled to right field and took third when the ball scooted by Sehr.

A Brody Peterson sacrifice fly had the Brewers up 3-0.

But the Bluejays, who play at St. James Friday, cut the lead to 3-1 in the sixth on singles from Ben Wolf, Kyle Helget and Erich Prokosch and a sacrifice fly from Jay Helget.

Essig then rallied for three runs in the eighth without getting a ball out of the infield.

Kyle Helget walked before infield singles from Jay Helget and Alex Guggisberg loaded the bases. Cariveau followed by hitting Sehr to force in a run and then walked Jacob Neuman to add another run. Nick Fischer took over and issued a walk to Jordan Guggisberg for another run.

“That has been the way it has gone the whole year for us,” Brewers manager Al Flor said. “Our pitching struggles to throw strikes.”

Essig added another run in the ninth on three walks and a base hit.
