3 to be inducted into New Ulm Bowling Association’s HOF

NEW ULM — Three bowlers with a combined 110 years of experience in the game will be inducted into the New Ulm Bowling Hall of Fame on Friday evening, March 16th at the New Ulm Country Club.

Social hour is at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and awards will be at 7:30 p.m.

The 2018 inductee for the New Ulm Women’s Bowling Association is Karen Christiansen. The Men’s Bowling Association is bestowing this year’s Hall of Fame honor to Don Brand and Gordy Haack.

• Karen Christiansen has been actively involved in bowling for 40 years. Throughout her career she has maintained a high average of 149 with a high game of 257 and a high series of 567.

Christiansen served many years on the Board of Directors for the New Ulm Bowling Association. She’s also been a team captain and brought many new bowlers to the sport. She participates regularly in local association tournaments as well as the Minnesota State tournaments.

• Don Brand was involved with bowling for more than 20 years. His high game recorded was 245, high series was 612 and high average was 163. He was a long-time member of the Downtown and Primetimer’s leagues.

Brand served as the Sports Editor of The Journal for 17 years. During that time, he helped bring extensive bowling coverage to the readers. He featured pictures and scores of bowlers who achieved a 700 series, publicized bowling events and tournaments and end-of-season results.

• Gordy Haack has bowled for over 45 years. He’s bowled a high game of 257, high series of 679 and a career high average of 178. Haack has participated in the Home league and is currently a member of the Straight-a-way and Mixed Up Couples leagues. Locally he’s served as league president and team captain for several years. Haack regularly participates in the city, regional, state and national tournaments.
