By Jeff Meder Journal Sports Writer NEW ULM — Viterbo crushed Martin Luther College 99-41 on Monday in a nonconference mens’college basketball game. The V-Hawks opened the game with an 8-0 run. Kenton Fabion scored MLC’s first basket at the 15:13 mark on 3-pointer. Viterbo scored 10 straight points later in the first half. Both teams traded baskets for a 40-14 halftime advantage. MLC picked things up in the second half scoring 27 points. Viterbo scored 59 points which included an 11-0 run to open the second half. The V-Hawks continued to score points in bunches, but the Knights didn’t give up as they kept battling and tried to get back into the contest. A portion of the V-Hawks’ success came from its ability to score baskets from outside or get the ball inside. Turnovers didn’t help MLC’s cause as it committed 23 while Viterbo had only nine turnovers. MLC’s TJ Babinec scored 11 points, Kenton Fabian had seven points, Jared Ruffin added six points and Jacob price had five points. Richard Eckmann had six rebounds and Ian Paulsen added five boards for MLC. Alex Clement led Viterbo with 19 points. Connor Heise and Cade Anderson each had 14 points. Jason Tichy had 13 and Jared Fleischmann added 12 points. Cullin Neeck had 10 points. Cade Anderson led Viterbo with seven rebounds and Cody Hoeth added six rebounds. For the game, Viterbo shot 51.4 percent. It was 13-of-28 from 3-point range for 46.4 percent. The V-Hawks made 10-of-13 free throws for 76.9 percent. MLC (0-4) will play at 6:30 pm on Friday at Calvin.
