Prep football: Sleepy Eye picks up 1st win of the year, Wabasso rolls over Springfield

Sleepy Eye 44, Adrian 19

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye earned its first win of the season, downing Adrian on Friday in a Southwest District football contest.

Landon Strong rushed for 256 yards and four touchdowns. Jacob Berg rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Carter Tauer had 12 tackles and an interception defensively for Sleepy Eye.

Sleepy Eye (1-3) will play at Wabasso (4-0) next Saturday.

Wabasso 54, Springfield 0

SPRINGFIELD — Wabasso crushed Springfield 54-0 on Friday in a Southwest District football game.

Cooper Taylor had 14 rushes for 89 yards and three touchdowns for Wabasso. Nick Altermatt was 9-for-10 passing for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He had five rushes for 78 yards and a touchdown.

Lance Wagner and Kyle Jacobson each had a touchdown for Wabasso. Colton Taylor had four catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. Tony Franta had one catch for 26 yards and a tocuhdown.

Devin Johnson had four tackles and six assists for the Tigers. James Ploeger added three tackles and six assists.

Wabasso (4-0) will host Sleepy Eye (0-3) on Sept. 30.

Springfield (1-3) will travel to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Friday.

NR-H-E-G 45, GFW 36

NEW RICHLAND — New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday in a South Central District football game.

Tylor Hopp had four rushes for 45 yards and two touchdowns for GFW. Dominic Miguel had a rush for 45 yards and a touchdown. Miguel Munoz had four rushes for 39 yards and a touchdown. McKray Schmidt added six rushes for 19 yards and a touchdown.

Schmidt added 10 tackles and four assists defensively. Brett Hazelton added 6.5 tackles for GFW.

GFW (0-4) will host LeSueur-Henderson on Friday.

Nicollet 27,

Mankato Loyola 21

MANKATO — Nicollet defeated Mankato Loyola on Friday in a 9-man South District football contest.

Ean Thompsen had 116 yards rushing and a touchdown. Anthony Macias had a rushing touchdown. Avery Northquest had 22 tackles and Cooper Martens had 14 tackles and a sack. Tory Nelson had 10 tackles and two sacks.

Nicollet (2-2) will travel to Madelia (1-3) on Friday.
