Wabasso takes first at Wabasso Invitational

WABASSO — Wabasso took care of things in its own Wabasso Invitational on Saturday, taking home the championship.

Wabasso (12-2) defeated Redwood Valley 25-18, 25-17. The Rabbits also defeated Southwest MN Christian 25-15, 25-14.

They split with MACCRAY 25-19, 18-25 and defeated St. Clair 25-21, 25-19 , before eventually defeating MACCRAY in the final game 25-22, 20-25, 15-11 to take the title.

Maddy Guetter led the Rabbits on the day with 69 kills and 57 digs, while picking up seven blocks. Jenna Frank led in set assists with 127.

Megan Rothmeier had 47 digs and four aces, while Gina Goblirsch had 44 digs and 38 kills to go with six aces.

Amanda Hoffman had 15 kills and five blocks as well for the Rabbits, while McKenna Nelson added four aces. (see photo below in bottom left corner)

Minnesota Valley Lutheran

MANKATO — Minnesota Valley Lutheran volleyball was 2-2 on Saturday in the Mankato West tournament at MSU.

Sibley East topped the Chargers 25-10 and 26-24 in MVL’s first match. MVL won its second game over New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 25-14, 19-25, 15-9.

MVL beat Austin in its third match of the day 25-17, 19-25, 16-14. MVL then lost its fourth game on the day to Cedar Mountain/Comfrey 16-25, 17-25.

Haley Birkholz had 42 digs and 19 kills for MVL, while Lauren Paulsen had 28 digs and 17 kills.

Mara Weisensel had eight blocks and 12 kills, while Hannah Marzinske had 30 digs.

Abby Riesgraf rounded things out for MVL with 35 digs. MVL plays at Lake Crystal 7 p.m. on Monday in a nonconference game.

Cedar Mountain/Comfrey

MANKATO — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey had a solid day of volleyball in the Mankato West tournament Saturday at MSU.

The Cougars went 3-1 on the day and finished in first place in the silver division.

The Cougars dropped their first game to Windom 22-25, 22-25.

Erica Bock led the team during Game 1 with nine kills followed by Makenzie Kerkhoff and Natalie Lux with six each. Abby Jemmings had 18 set assists and two digs in the first game.

The Cougars rebounded in their second game and defeated Mankato East 25-10, 25-19.

Lux led in Game 2 with eight kills, followed by Kerkoff with 6 and Bock with 5. Jemmings had 21 set assists in the second game.

CM/C defeated St. Peter 25-18, 25-22 in its third game of the day.

Bock led with 11 kills in the game, while Lux added six kills and 10 digs. Jemmings had 20 set assists and five digs.

Kylie Wersal and Jordan Kevelin had 11 digs each, while Kerkhoff had nine digs.

CM/C beat MVL 25-16, 25-17 in its final game of the day.

Kerkoff had 12 kills, followed by Bock with 5. Wersal had 16 digs in the game, while Jemmings had 10 digs.

CM/C (7-2) host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart for a 7 p.m. Tomahawk Conference game Thursday.
