The irony of President Trump’s indictment

To the editor:

Do you see the irony? President Trump’s enemies have desperately tried to find something that would exclude him from running for the presidency in 2024. They’ve sought to destroy him by spying on his 2016 campaign, carried on a war against him through two phony impeachments, combed through his taxes to find a crime, dug up matters that have already been adjudicated, and, many are convinced, used every tactic within their power to disenfranchise those who voted or will vote for him. — Now they are resurrecting the 1917 Espionage Act against him the same day that evidence was brought to light that the Biden family received millions from foreign nations, including our enemies.

Donald Trump is the one whose tireless, and often thankless, efforts have been expended to restore the economy and make our country energy independent, combat crime in our cities, and thwart those who want to obliterate the history of our country. He:

• is against fostering division in our nation by pitting one group against the other.

• speaks for freedom of speech, religion, and the right to bear arms (rights which are the bedrock of our country’s foundation).

• defends the rights of parents to raise their own children, the right of the unborn to enjoy the life promised to them in our Declaration of Independence, and the right of women to be acknowledged for their accomplishments without being dominated by men.

• sees the importance of bringing back academic excellence in our schools and protecting children from pornography and abuse.

• knows that it’s vital to restore the strength of our borders so that we once again have a sovereign nation and aren’t in danger from criminals and human traffickers, terrorists, and unknown diseases.

• understands the importance of building our defenses and was able to bring respect to our nation in the world.

The one whose term in office focused on our country’s welfare and whose MAGA campaign has a central theme of making America great again is accused of espionage which would destroy the country he is striving to protect and restore.

Does anyone else see the sad, absurd irony? While the current president who, with his family, has for years been inextricably tied to our enemies, the one who has been fighting for our country is being excoriated. While the media refuses to bring to light corruption which is truly dangerous and harmful to our nation, that same media incessantly attacks the one who is persistent in his efforts to improve the lot of Americans.

The question is, have so many Americans been duped or are they knowledgeable and complicit? Can enough Americans see the destructive nature of what’s happening and stand up to stop it?
