To the Editor:

I’ve been wrongly accused of lying in my assessments about the former President. I’ll put my news sources up against Fox and QAnon any time. If it’s truth that you’re craving, try these on for size.

I have a step-grandson who is gay. Oh, yes, he’s also a doctor.

My first granddaughter, who is now my oldest grandson — yes, grandson – is transgender and has had gender reassignment.

The toughest thing about it for me is conditioning my brain to refrain from using the pronoun “she.” It’s “he” now. I accept him and love him as much as I ever loved her. I love his courage to have done this. He’s an infinitely happier person.

I have a grandson whose mother is White and father is Black. He’s a perfect amalgam of the two of them, but he and his hair identify as Black.

Seven of my eleven grandchildren will be enrolled in colleges this fall…no, not learning to be Marxists. Fortunately, they all aspire to more than the caustic and catastrophic kitchen-table conservatism that promotes and nurtures the small-minded, educational staples consisting of the six r’s…readin’, ‘ritin’, ‘rithmetic, right-wing radicalism, and revenge.

One of them is going for fashion and design. His sister’s boyfriend’s father queried if he’s gay. Just because a guy wears a dress to his senior prom doesn’t mean he’s gay. I think he just likes to shock people. Good for him.

Need I continue?

My wife and I had a child out of wedlock in high school. Our oldest daughter is 53. My wife and I have been married 49+ years. To which camp will we be shipped if Project 2025 gets off the ground?

I have three brothers who have had four divorces, six wives. All have stories that would contribute to our family’s messiness.

So, how many of you are reading this and clutching your pearls and thankful that you’re not a part of this family circus?

On the other hand, how many of you are amused and thinking about the unconventional characters and situations which may exist in your families? Or among your friends?

Can we have a little empathy for the dysfunctionally functional families in our world?
