Blame the media, Democrats

To the editor: The recent letter that Marlin Huiras wrote speaks volumes, telling us how out of touch with the real world the liberal media is today. They have no idea how the “American citizen” lives. As Marlin has pointed out, it isn’t just one segment of the country, but people from all walks of life. And as he points out, why are we “taxpayers” giving one dime to support Planned Parenthood, an organization that promotes abortion, yet organizations such as “First Choice Pregnancy Services” of New Ulm that promotes life receives nothing in grants and survives only on ...

Finding our lightening bow symbol

To the editor: A citizen’s perpetual learning has seen a movement of reclamation of values that have been under”Forced Removal”. The new flag placed at the East end of Sleepy Eye gives great hope. A Garrison Flag placed at the time of crisis can give great meaning at the crossroads of change. The reclamation of a Constitutional Republic over a corporate America since 1871, is that hope. The corporation as claimed, has it’s liberty and justice for a few, claimed by perpetual war and assassinations. Silent puppet masters have dumb-ed down the “We The People” to accept their ...

Voters came from right here

To the editor: A day after the presidential election I watched a video of the panel at CNN discussing why or how the Democrats lost the election. One of the men on the panel totally frustrated whined “who raised these People? Where did these voters come from”? I could have told him those voters were mostly hard working Christian folks. “Those People”, Trump voters, are the ordinary folks in our society. They are the police, firemen, factory workers, construction workers, mechanics, truckers, farmers, dock workers, housewives, small business owners and others who do hard ...

Dealing with nightmare traffic

To the editor: Please do something about the traffic on Garden and Center. Dropping kids off at school is a nightmare. Roundabout, stop light, traffic control, overpass, do something. I’ve moved faster in Twin Cities rush hour. Josh Domeier Sleepy Eye

Protect Boundary Waters

To the editor: In a July rally in Minnesota, Donald Trump said, “We will end that ban in, what do you think, about 10 minutes?” He was talking about a 2022 ban on new mineral leases in a 225,000- acre tract of national forest that includes the Boundary Waters. Mineral mining is detrimental to the environment and the quality of life of people and animals in the surrounding area. It can contaminate soil, groundwater, and surface water with heavy metals and chemicals. It releases harmful substances into the air, making it difficult to breathe. It can destroy the habitats of wildlife ...

New Ulm should reconsider park curfews

To the editor: I am writing to address the topic of city-wide park curfews. Currently, most parks in New Ulm close at 10 pm, and for a city with so many parks (over 25 in their respective categories), New Ulm is especially equipped with “third spaces” for people to enjoy the outdoors. While this is great for folks to enjoy spending time with their community, it is not the most beneficial for those needing a third space after 10 p.m. In her article, “Why aren’t parks open at night?” Rachel Quednau, the program director for the nonprofit-organization Strong Towns in ...
