The spirit of falsehood

To the editor: When I was about 12 years old I would tell my dad about some of the things we were being taught in school. Concerning evolution, he would tell me that’s just a theory. The fact is theory is not fact. What is not told is at the end of his life, Darwin completely dismissed his theory of evolution. On another note, let’s mention Karl Marx. Marxist philosophy has been taught in colleges for at least seven decades. Marx hated God. A line from his poem “The Fiddler,” Marx said “With Satan I have struck my deal.” In a line from another poem he said “I will feel ...

Keeping local pharmacies open

To the editor: The local pharmacy isn’t just a place to pick up prescriptions—we are a lifeline. I’ve spent years helping patients manage their medications, answering late-night phone calls, and ensuring my community gets the care they need. But independent pharmacies like mine are disappearing, and with them, vital healthcare services. Too many in Minnesota lack easy, safe access to medications. This problem is statewide: 44% of pharmacies in Minnesota have closed in the last ten years, with 58% of those being independent pharmacies. The driving force? Pharmacy benefit ...

More ‘Hands Off’ examples

To the Editor: The letter to the editor in the New Ulm Journal on April 10, entitled “The Real Hands off Movement” was very well written. Here are some additional examples to add to the list. Hands Off — the unborn and partial-birth children being killed via abortion. Hands off our taxpayer money being used by the Planned Parenthood killing machine. Hands Off — our girls and women being forced to compete against and share bathroom/locker rooms with males, disguised as transgender females. As was so clearly stated by our current administration, “There are only two sexes, ...

To the editor: I tip my hat to Kim Sjogren’s letter (April 10). Well written, to the point, and accurate. I personally visited Second Harvest Heartland several years ago and saw a brand new facility with all the latest bells and whistles. I thought something seemed odd. How could a volunteer operation give away food to people week after week, and seemingly not have a care in the world about finances?  Now the answer is here. It was Minnesota Government “generosity” funded through NGO (which basically means no oversight, no accounting). We’ve also been hearing a lot ...

Embrace our laws

To the editor: Thank you, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, for having a course called "Totalitarian Patterns” way back in the last century. It was taught by a professor originally from an East European country, who had held a high elective position there until ousted by the communists. We students of Russian language and culture and/or of politics, generally, learned to become more aware of the signs of a slide towards authoritarianism, whenever and wherever that happens. And it’s happening, isn’t it? Pardon me, for a few minutes, while I weep. Then onward. A Swedish ...

Not fit to lead most powerful country

To the editor: Last week four American soldiers died in a training exercise in Lithuania. When their bodies were recovered, Lithuania paused to honor their sacrifice. A crowd gathered as men carried the four coffins from the hearses to the U.S. transport jet. Many Lithuanians wept. When a similar event happened during his term, President Bush waited on the runway and saluted. When a similar event happened during his term, President Obama waited on the runway and saluted. When a similar event happened during his term, President Biden waited on the runway and saluted. But when ...
