Semantics don’t change the facts

To the editor:

Politicians on the right in the U.S. House want to call dissatisfied constituents anything but what they really are. They refer to them as “a vocal minority,” “special interests,” “Antifa” (see Jan. 6), “outside agitators,” “paid protesters,” etc. In order not to meet with these real people with real concerns about the real direction of our country, especially in light of the big bad bill, which is many things, but beautiful is not one of them, these cowardly lions (Maybe they could blame their failures to meet and greet on “bone spurs.”) hide behind hollow accusations that they hope will validate their timid disposition toward dealing with the elephant in the room, i.e. the angry voters in town halls across the country.

In an effort to shield themselves from any accountability for their shallow courage, the right has ordained a kind of “witless protection program” which mandates they refrain from any kind of contact with the unhappy, unwashed masses for whom they’ve been sworn to serve. The irritated crowds, who are feeling betrayed and vulnerable as a result of Republicans’ subservience to an obviously diminished leader with selfish and nefarious intents, have every right to voice their disapproval as a spontaneous kind of fact check of the representatives’ lying through their teeth in futile attempts to sell their party’s acquiescence in the passage of 47’s simplistically, inaccurately, and inappropriately named “big, beautiful bill.” More in line with its intent, I’d submit Obviously Overreaching Plot.

Big…Yes, it was a whopping 870 pages. I’m sure it was a real page-turner for 47, who struggles to read his Presidential Daily Diary. Beautiful…I’m sure that 47’s billionaire donors consider any deposits directly into their coffers are, indeed, a beautiful thing. Bill…Certainly there is a bill coming due for the average American, not to mention the size of the bill (national debt) that will be left for generations beyond our days.

Semantics…And I haven’t mentioned examples of Trump sycophants now using antonyms for 47 that are completely opposite from their earlier assessments of Donald.
