NEW ULM–Sylvia DeFrenza Salvati passed away on August 14, 2023 at the age of 89. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. October 9th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Visitationstarting at 10 a.m. immediately preceding.
The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements. Sylvia is survived by daughter, Onda (Ted) Knutson of St. Paul; sons, Christopher Salvati of Redwood Falls, Michael (Jennifer) of Minnetrista; grandchildren, Jillien (Scott) Cornell, Joseph Salvati, Leo Knutson, Alex Knutson, William Salvati, and Ella Salvati; great-grandchildren, Harrison and Hudson Cornell; and sister, Rina Horejs. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Anita Mariano.
Sylvia was born in Triggiano, Italy in 1934, then immigrated to the United States in 1947. Her family settled in Dearborn, Michigan where she met her future husband, Richard Salvati. Sylvia and Richard married in 1962, then moved to New Ulm in 1968 where they both happily lived the rest of their lives.
Sylvia was a loving mother who will be missed. Family was her greatest joy, but she also loved gardening, fishing, travel, opera, reading, and just being outside on a sunny day. Sylvia was a parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church since moving to New Ulm and it was a place where she found many hours of peace, prayer and respite. Mvfh.org
