NEW ULM — David R. Schrimpf, age 69, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Monsignor John A. Richter will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, and continue from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-SOUTH Chapel in New Ulm.

David is survived by his wife, Jan of New Ulm; two daughters, Afton (Jake) Reeder of Lakewood, CA and Alyssa (Danny) Sellner of Courtland; a son, Brian (Rachel Piotter) Schrimpf of New Ulm; eight grandchildren; a sister, Joan (Bob) Busch of New Ulm; father-in-law, Herb Brunner of New Ulm; daughter-in-law, Kelly Raitz Miller; sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Larry) Soukup of Sleepy Eye; brother-in-law, Bob (Janet) Brunner of New Ulm; first wife, Mary Ann Doelger of Lakewood, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tyson Raitz; his parents; and a nephew, Paul Busch.

David Raymond Schrimpf was born on May 14, 1948 in New Ulm to Henry and Marie (Ries) Schrimpf. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam until his honorable discharge. David enjoyed doing construction for family and friends, worked at Mid-AM, and later was employed at Kraft Foods until his retirement. He married Jan Brunner-Raitz on June 26, 2010 in New Ulm. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars, riding his Harley, and playing with his grandchildren.

In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to the Brown County V.A., Allina Hospice, Oak Hills Living Center, or the Cancer Center.
