Janet ‘Jan’ Ruth Iverson

NEW ULM – Janet “Jan” Ruth Iverson, age 78 of New Ulm died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester from injuries sustained in a car accident near Nicollet.

Funeral service will be 11 am on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor David Nissen will officiate, and a private committal service will take place in the St. Olaf Cemetery in New Richland on Friday.

Visitation will be from 9-11 am on Thursday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Jan is survived by her sisters, Judy (Jim) Supalla of Owatonna, Jean Anne Eliasson of Wisconsin, Trudy Olson of Minneapolis; brother, Russell “Rusty” Olson Jr. of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael Iverson in 2006; and sister, Christine Billiet.

Janet Ruth Olson was born February 17, 1938 in Albert Lea to Russell and Janice (Christianson) Olson. She was a 1956 graduate from New Richland High School. Janet later attended Luther College in Iowa where she received her degree in education, and eventually attained her master’s degree from Mankato State University. On August 4, 1962, Janet was united in marriage with Michael Iverson in New Richland. After marriage the couple lived in North Mankato until later moving to New Ulm in 1978. Janet worked her entire career as a teacher with the New Ulm Public Schools until her battle with Multiple Sclerosis forced her into an early retirement. In her retirement, Janet took a strong interest in helping with Camp Courage in any way she could. Janet was a devout member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm where she also participated in the church choir, and shared her musical talents with the congregation for many years.
