Melda A. Ohland

GIBBON – Melda A. Ohland, 86, of Gibbon died Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor Michael Killinger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Melda is survived by her husband, Donald Ohland of Gibbon; sister, Leona Lehman of Fairmont; brother and sister-in-law, William and Marge Brei of New Ulm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Knittel, Helen Bloedel, Esther Patterson; brothers, Raymond (Lucille) Brei, and Edwin Brei.

Melda Adeline Brei was born on September 1, 1928 in Mission, South Dakota, to William and Minnie (Munstermann) Brei. She graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm. On August 17, 1958 she was united in marriage to Donald Ohland at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Melda had taught elementary grade at St. John’s Lutheran School in Stanton, Nebraska and later at Immanuel Lutheran School in Gibbon. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed playing tennis and spending time on the computer. Melda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon where she had played the organ and sang in the church choir.
