Renville County Sheriff’s Office • Received a report of a train-semi-tractor trailer crash at the railroad crossing on Renville County Road 16 north of Highway 212, Melville Township, two miles west of Hector at 12:56 p.m. Monday. Emergency responders located a 2018 Freightliner semi driven by Andrew Hanson, 41, Atwater, who was southbound on CR 16. It appeared he failed to stop at a stop sign and did not yield to a westbound train. No one was injured in the crash. Hanson wore a seat belt. New Ulm Police • Responded to German Park at 4:14 p.m. July 16 to check on the welfare of a male in the park. A 43-year-old homeless man appeared to be under the influence. Police found meth under a bench where the man was sitting. He was arrested and transported to detox. Reports went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for fifth-degree possession consideration and to Department of Corrections Probation. • Took a theft report of a 14-year-old New Ulm boy suspected of stealing $68.85 worth of merchandise on two occasions at Kwik Trip North at 5:15 p.m. July 16. Dawn Marie Smith, 59, Mankato, was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Highway 68, approaching Highway 15, lost control and left the road. She did not wear a helmet and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Alcohol was not involved.
