Renville County Sheriff’s Office • Received a report of a train-semi-tractor trailer crash at the railroad crossing on Renville County Road 16 north of Highway 212, Melville Township, two miles west of Hector at 12:56 p.m. Monday. Emergency responders located a 2018 Freightliner semi driven by Andrew Hanson, 41, Atwater, who was southbound on CR 16. It appeared he failed to stop at a stop sign and did not yield to a westbound train. No one was injured in the crash. Hanson wore a seat belt. Police found meth under a bench where the man was sitting. He was arrested and transported to detox. Dawn Marie Smith, 59, Mankato, was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Highway 68, approaching Highway 15, lost control and left the road. She did not wear a helmet and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Alcohol was not involved.
