Sibley County Sheriff’s Office • Responded to a two-vehicle crash at 2:08 p.m. Friday on 300th Street (CR 25) near 561st Avenue, Cornish Township, a mile south of Winthrop. Jereome Schmidt, 83, Winthrop, was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on CR 25 when he collided with a 1995 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Willem Durandt, 49, Gibbon. The semi was loaded with fertilizer, parked on the shoulder of eastbound CR 25. A female passenger in the Jeep was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A 2007 Ford Edge driven by westbound on Highway 60 by Julie Johnston, Alamogordo, N.M. when she collided with a 2019 Dodge Charger driven by Kyle Aaron Helget, 19, New Ulm, who was northbound on Highway 169.
