New Ulm Police
• Responded to German Park at 4:14 p.m. July 16 to check on the welfare of a male in the park. A 43-year-old homeless man appeared to be under the influence. Police found meth under a bench where the man was sitting. He was arrested and transported to detox. Reports went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for fifth-degree possession consideration and to Department of Corrections Probation.
• Took a theft report of a 14-year-old New Ulm boy suspected of stealing $68.85 worth of merchandise on two occasions at Kwik Trip North at 5:15 p.m. July 16. The boy was issued a trespass warning banning him from Kwik Trip. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for consideration of theft charges.
• Took a report at 6:42 p.m. July 16 of a 57-year-old New Ulm man who received a threatening message on his phone. Police listened to the message and recognized the caller as a 40-year-old New Ulm man. Police went to the suspect’s residence, where he became confrontational. The man was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for consideration of threats of violence and disorderly conduct charges.
• Received a call at 11:51 a.m. Friday of an individual going through a business dumpster on the 1600 block of South Broadway. The business has a contract with New Ulm Steel and gets paid for the metal left in it. The business obtained the vehicle license plate number and talked with a 59-year-old New Ulm woman about the theft. She admitted to taking items from the dumpster. She was issued a trespass notice and agreed to return the stolen items.
• Received a call at 2:10 p.m. Friday from a local bank of a 40-year-old New Ulm man who traveled through the drive-thru who had been issued a trespass notice from the bank for prior conduct. It was determined a new trespass order would be issued due to confusion about the man receiving the initial trespass order.
• Stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation at 11:47 p.m. Friday a Broadway and 6th St. South. A 40-year-old New Ulm man was issued a citation for driving after revocation and failure to transfer title. Because the man had been cited for driving after revocation 11 times in the past four years, he was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail. A report went to the Brown County Attorney’s Office.
• Took a driving complaint call Sunday about a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Broadway. Police stopped the suspect vehicle. An ambulance was requested for the driver, a 64-year-old New Ulm man who was confused and talking in incomplete sentences. The man became combative in the ambulance. The ambulance pulled over to allow police to restrain the man and ride along to the New Ulm Medical Center Emergency Room. A driver’s evaluation was done and sent to the Minnesota Department of Public Service.
